Asphalt FAQ

Fifty years of the same questions, answered honestly. If you don't see yours below, call John directly at 719-531-6783.

Scheduling & season
When is the best time of year to pave a driveway in Colorado?

May through September is the prime paving window on the Front Range. Surface temperatures and overnight lows during these months allow asphalt to compact and cure correctly. March, April, and October are typically still good for sealcoating and most repair work.

Can you pave in winter?

We avoid new asphalt pours in deep winter because cold ground temperatures interfere with proper compaction and cure. Crack fill and emergency repair work can sometimes be done. We book the spring calendar through the winter — reserve your slot early.

Pricing & payment
Do you require a deposit?

No. Hurley Asphalt has always operated on payment on completion — no money up front. You pay when you're satisfied with the finished work.

How much does an asphalt driveway cost in the Pikes Peak region?

Cost depends on square footage, base condition, drainage work, and access. We give a real number after walking the site. Estimates are free.

Driveways
How long does a new asphalt driveway last?

A properly paved and maintained Hurley driveway is engineered to last 25+ years. Sealcoating every 2–3 years and addressing cracks early are the two biggest factors in longevity through Front Range freeze-thaw.

How long does a typical residential driveway take?

Most residential driveways are completed in two days: site prep and grading on day one, paving and compaction on day two. Most are ready for foot traffic the same evening and full vehicle use within 24–48 hours, depending on temperature.

Sealcoating
How often should I sealcoat my asphalt?

Every 2–3 years is the standard recommendation for Front Range pavement. Heavy sun exposure or south-facing surfaces may benefit from more frequent attention.

Should I fill cracks before sealcoating?

Yes. Cracks should be addressed with rubberized hot-pour sealant before sealcoat is applied. Sealing over open cracks does not repair them — water still gets underneath.

Crack fill & repair
Why use rubberized hot-pour crack fill instead of cold-pour?

Hot-pour rubberized sealant flexes through Colorado's freeze-thaw cycles. Cold-pour fillers commonly shrink and crack back open in the first winter.

Commercial
Do you handle large commercial parking lots?

Yes. We've paved lots for Centura Health / Penrose Hospital, McDonald's locations across Colorado Springs and Pueblo, the Town of Monument's Triview Metro District, the City of Woodland Park, and Kissing Camels, among others.

Service area
What areas do you serve?

From our Peyton shop, we serve Peyton, Colorado Springs, Monument, Black Forest, Falcon, Woodland Park, Manitou Springs, Pueblo, and the wider Pikes Peak region.

Trust
Are you accredited?

Yes — Hurley Asphalt is BBB A+ accredited through the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado. We've been family-owned and operated since 1976.
